    Der Panzer

no better place for this...will update as things move along, and pictures.

    Der Panzer

Here is a build thread for Der Panzer. Started life with a 1992 Nissan Pathfinder. Picked it up for $2000 and 152k miles. No problems and everything ran great. First mod was fitting a CD player from Cartoys, because I haven't seen a cassette tape in probably 5 years. That done, older Nissan automatics are known to fail due to overheating and the filter getting clogged. Purchased a 13inx7in Supercooler from B&M along with a remote filter (no pics of install). Mounted the filter with some spare flat stock underneath the radiator on the support bracket.

Next came CB and on board air. I mounted a Cobra handheld CB underneath the seat. For the time being, a Cobra magnetic carphone style antenna routed up the driver side passenger door. This will be upgraded once a bumper is installed.

After going through 3 cheap compressors taking a dump on me for one reason or another, I decided to drop the cash and purchased a ViAir Constant Duty cycle with a 2.5 gallon tank (4wd parts had a sale). Pushes more than enough air to air up four tires to 35psi and fill the tank in roughly 10 minutes. Not the fastest, but having a tank is a piece of mind and makes future air lockers easier. Need to buy some hose and permanently mount compressor and tank. For now they are temporary mounted in the cargo area. Compressor will be in the engine bay, passenger side near the firewall. Still haven't decided where the tank is going. I defend myself in that I have a newborn and didn't have much time to do it right the first time.

Upcoming mods are a 3 inch suspension lift and slider air tanks, parts are on order

    Wait! Listen!

    Do you smell that?!

what suspension lift did you go with? Just something to tide you over or is this something more permanent?

I picked up a cheap 3" suspension lift from Automotive Customizers. Just new springs and UCAs. This is to hold me over until I can afford to do the SAS the right way. Also looking at a Detroit for the back. If I get time this weekend I need to jack up the rear axle, get the tires off the ground, and make sure I don't have a LSD. 90% sure I don't, but want to be absolutely positive. The old Pathfinders had a 31 spline open diff, or a 33 spline LSD.

Well in that case you could be 100% positive by pulling an axle. 4 nuts a brake line and a pin for the park brake cable.

When we doing a weekend in the garage?

Give me notice so I can by the steel.

I thought I saw something waaaay back when on nissan4wheelers where the VIN or the door jam sticker tells you exactly what axle/splines etc etc.

Been searching there, but all I can find is lift the rear and spin the wheels.

    ^this. Open or LSD, they're 31 spline. 33 spline didn't start until the R50s, then the (W)D22's.

Lock rite is in, rear coils are in, one slider is on....back to work!

And were done. Two sliders one lift one locker and a pair of sore sholders. Dave...pics!

Ive never dealt with an easier locker install, amazingly simple.

SUPER easy install on the locker. PICS! What's next, some craigslist/forum trolling for bigger tires?
