    Electrical Problems

i was driving home from work early moring and my dash lights went out not sure what happened to them also my tail lights went out and as far as I can tell my driver side brake light doesn't work either. checked all the fuses everything was good and also checked the bulbs nothing was burnt out or broke. Short of taking it to a dealership not sure what to do about it. Its a 2000 Xterra

There is a bulk head fitting that splits the wiring harness at the fire wall, Id disconnect the battery and pull the fitting apart and check for corrosion. With all the things you say are out it sounds like something like that.

Or your alternator just took a dump. Lights flickering or dieing while the truck is still running is a common alternator problem. You can pull it and bench test it. I'd go to www.car-parts.com to get a low mileage used one if need be.

Pull it and get the alternator bench tested. It's funny, but the O.E. output on those alternator's is only 80 amps. I have done some looking through the 'competition', i.e. online, and they do offer high output up to 145 amps! So, if you need to have a microwaved burrito out on the trail, you are set! I have O.E. rebuilds for about $170. They are decent rebuilds.
